Reef Knots
It goes without saying that a human being’s basic needs include: food, shelter, and clothing. This means that we cannot do without any of them. However, the manufacture of clothing has been discovered to make up roughly 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions. And this is discounting the fact that it wastes water, pollutes water sources, and makes up most of our landfills, as well. Does this mean that we can do without wearing clothes? Of course not.
As such, the next best thing would be to invest in sustainable methods of producing clothing. And a company that claims to practice such is Reef Knots.
About Reef Knots
Established by Patrick Dudley-Williams in 2013, Reef Knots is a company that was all about a few simple things—offers high-quality clothing to customers, while leaving very few footprints in the ocean, and on the planet itself. The journey to create Reef Knots began in 2012 when Patrick got fired from his job; just two days before his twins were to be born.
This drastic change left Patrick with the duty of taking care of three young kids, his wife, and his home’s mortgage; without any jobs. However, instead of searching for a new job, Patrick decided to introduce people to the age-old concept of wearing ties. Although many people tried to dissuade him from wasting his time (as they put it), since no one wore ties anymore, Patrick remained dauntless.
And in 2013, Reef Knots—which specialized in the sales of ties—was introduced to the public. And with ties as a starter, Reef Knots grew to sell other menswear such as shirts, trousers, and shorts; but with a twist—they claim to have invested in trying to incorporate organic cotton, recycled plastic, and a variety of other eco-friendly materials. This was to ensure that they left very little impact on the planet.
In addition to their sustainability efforts, Reef Knots was purported to have aligned with the Blue Marine Foundation in 2014, in their effort to save marine life and protect the ocean. The Blue Marine Foundation is an organization that is acclaimed to be passionate about our oceans, their marine reserves, and the reduction of plastics in the ocean. And in a bid to support this cause, Reef Knots declares that they offer limited edition products on their online store; products from which Reef Knots claims to donate 25% of their sales value to the Blue Marine Foundation.
